Sun Jun

Son of Sun Gong and great-grandson of Sun Jing, Sun Jian's brother. Given command of the guards by Sun Quan, he is enraged at being superseded by Zhuge Ke's creatures Zhang Yue and Zhu En. Teng Yin brings him the argument, Sun Liang gives him the warrant, and Teng Yin supplies the method. He rides out personally to talk the suspicious Zhuge Ke back toward the Palace, offers to have his own medicated wine fetched so he will drink, then changes out of his ceremonial robes into armour, runs up the hall with a drawn sword shouting 'The Emperor has issued an edict to slay a rebel!' and takes his head before he can clear his own. Kills Zhang Yue in the scuffle, has both bodies rolled in matting and tipped into a rubbish pit outside the south gate, and the whole family put to the sword in the market place. Becomes Prime Minister in his victim's place, with command of all the forces.

His move decides the first half of the chapter. 'Sun Jun of Wu has crossed the river to attack Shouchun' is the report that makes Guanqiu Jian abandon Nandun and retreat to Xiangcheng that same night, which is what lets Fu Gu's three-army plan close on him. Wen Qin then flees to Wu to serve him.

His whole notice is one clause: 'At this time Sun Jun had died and his brother, Sun Chen, was Prime Minister.' The assassin of Zhuge Ke leaves the stage in half a sentence.

His corpse is not left alone: after the executions, 'Not content with all these things, the tomb of Sun Jun was broken open and his corpse beheaded.' The assassin of Zhuge Ke is punished posthumously in the same hour his brother's family is destroyed.
