Argues for pure defence, is overruled, and is left holding the walls while Fu Qian goes down to fight — and when Fu Qian is driven back he finds the banners of Shu gone and Wei flags flying. 'I have yielded!' cried Jiang Shu from the ramparts. Fu Qian's answer — 'Ungrateful and treacherous rogue! How can you ever face the world again?' — is the last thing he hears from his own side, and the chapter's quatrain names him: 'The base Jiang Shu lived on, a life disgraced.' Afterwards he is the man Zhong Hui asks about the shrine on Dingjun Mountain.
