Succeeds his dead uncle Zhang Ji, camps at Wancheng with Jia Xu, and surrenders sensibly to Cao Cao's one hundred fifty thousand - until Cao Cao takes his uncle's widow to bed. On Jia Xu's quiet plan he moves his troops inside the lines, disarms Dian Wei through Hu Juer's theft, and burns the camp at midnight, killing Dian Wei, Cao Ang, and Cao Amin.
