Yang Fu

Yang Fu; the avenger of Wei Kang; raises troops against Ma Chao.

The avenger: urges Wei Kang to hold Jicheng, is spared and even employed by Ma Chao — then fakes bereavement leave, shames his cousin Jiang Xu into rising (with his eighty-two-year-old aunt sealing it), fights in mourning white, takes five wounds while his seven brothers die around him, and declines Cao Cao's lordship: 'I have neither the credit of a successful defense nor the merit of death with my master.'

Named once, and only as the kinsman who places Yang Ling: 'He is one Yang Ling, a cousin of Yang Fu.'

One of the two further memorials that follow Wang Su's and finally move Cao Rui to recall Cao Zhen and Sima Yi from the rain.

Delivers the third and longest remonstrance, with his coffin already prepared and his body bathed for execution. Sets the frugal sages against the builders: Yao's thatched cottage, Yu's modest palace, the Yin and Zhou halls three feet high and nine mats across, against Jie's jade chamber and elephant stables, Di Xin's Deer Terrace, King Ling of Chu's palaces and the First Emperor's Epang - 'All those who have failed to consider the means of the people and given way to sensuous pleasures have perished.' Cao Rui disregards it entirely and hurries the terrace on.
