  • Chapter 114 — Driving To The South Gate, Cao Mao Plunges Into Death; Abandoning Stores, Jiang Wei Defeats The Wei Army.
The man who does it, and the man who pays for it. Halted with the rest of the guards by Cao Mao's challenge, he turns to Jia Chong for orders - 'Death or capture?' - and is told 'Duke Sima Zhao said the man had to die.' Kills the Emperor with two halberd thrusts. Then, condemned as the sole criminal to make an atonement, he refuses to go quietly: 'It was not my crime: It was Jia Chong who passed on your own orders!' Sima Zhao has his tongue cut out before the execution. He and his brother Cheng Zu are put to death in the market place and their families exterminated. The chapter's quatrain names the real author anyway.
