Sent out with five thousand troops on the seventh day of the wager to chase off what Cao Zhen has been told is a handful of Shu stragglers. The enemy melts away in front of him, he halts to think and lets his men dismount, and the trap closes - Hu Ban and Wu Yi in front, Guan Xing and Liao Hua behind, hillsides on both flanks shouting 'Dismount and yield!' More than half his men surrender on the spot and are turned into the disguised raiding party; he rides out to fight and is killed by Liao Hua.
